How to Apply Eye Shadow

Method 1how to apply eyeshadow

  1. Prime the lids by applying a light touch of foundation or concealer to the lids to even skin tone and help shadow adhere to the lid. Blend well, but use a gentle touch and use your ring finger on this sensitive skin area.
  2. Apply mascara second so it won’t mess up your eyeshadow by getting those little dots of mascara on it before it dries when you blink.
  3. Sweep a color similar to your skin tone (or a touch lighter) over the entire lid from lashes to brow bone. Start at the bottom of your eyelid and work your way up.
  4. Sweep a light white shadow (shimmer or matte, your preference) directly under the brows from the middle of the eye outwards. This is your brow bone highlighter and will help to open up the eyes.
  5. Take the next darkest color and sweep shadow across the eyes from lash line to the crease. Blend well outwards.
  6. Apply dark shadow. For the most impact, the darkest color can be applied to the crease of the eye from the corners to the outer edges, blended well. Blending is key to avoid a drastic line across the crease. Another option is to use the darkest shadow to create a sideways “V” on the sides of the eyes. Lightly apply shadow to the outer third of the crease and blend into the outer edges of the eyelid, creating a sideways “V” shape (The pointed end of the v would be pointing away from the eyes, to help visualize). This helps to define the shape of the eyes, and makes them appear bigger by bringing the focus outwards. For a more natural look, apply a medium-dark shadow in the crease and a slightly darker color in the corner.
  7. Finish with a careful application of eyeliner to the top lid in a complimentary color. There are so many fantastic eyeliner colors available today, so experiment with what is out there. Plums, greens, and browns are flattering to many eye colors. Tilt the head forward while looking down, and dash short lines along the lash line to avoid drags and smudges.

Method 2how to apply eyeshadow

  1. Apply concealer and mascara as described previously.
  2. Apply eyeliner under the eyes (above eyelashes) and a thin line above the eyes close to the eyelashes.
  3. Grab your thinnest eyeshadow brush and dab it in the black eyeshadow.
    • Raise your eyebrows, find the crease of your upper eyelid (where you might feel the bone for the top of your eye socket), and then take the brush and line it with the eyeshadow. Do it as if you’re holding a pencil and you’re using it to draw on your eyes. Do this to make a half circle above your eyes. (Don’t go too far out to the side of your face when doing this step)
  4. Dab the same brush in your black eyeshadow
    • Fill in the space between the line of eyeshadow you just created, and the eyeliner on your eyelid.
    • Make sure to do this lightly so the first line of eyeshadow stands out more
  5. Grab your thicker eyeshadow brush and lighter color of eyeshadow (of your choice, it doesn’t necessarily have to be yellow) and dab it in that.
    • Lightly sweep it across the top of your dark line of black eyeshadow. (don’t go too low on the sides of your face)
    • Dab it back in the eyeshadow and again lightly dab it where you already swept it across. Dab lightest at the edge of your outer eye and the edge of your inner eye to create a smoky, well maintained effect.how to apply eyeshadow
  6. To do the bottom part of the eyeshadow, take out your thin brushed eyeshadow brush again and dab it in your black eyeshadow. (Tap it on the rim to get rid of excess eyeshadow that could fall off the brush and leave unattractive black spots of eyeshadow under your eyes or on your cheeks!)
    • With one easy motion, start by putting the brush under your bottom lashes and sweeping it from side to side in a straight motion to create the point under the eye on both sides.
  7. Touch up by making sure no excess eyeshadow fell onto unwanted places on your face and adding a little more concealer to seal the deal. and you’re done!

How to Apply Blush

Apply blush to your face to resemble the natural glow of your cheeks and watch the compliments flow in. A hint of makeup blush…and you can look fresher and prettier. The trick lies in choosing the right blush color and learning how to apply blush correctly. But often blush remains the most misused makeup cosmetic. When it comes to applying your blush, less is best. Learn simple tips and tricks to get the blush just right!

Determine your face shape before applying blush. Concentrate blush on the center of the face for high cheekbones. A rounder fuller face looks good with dusty pink or rose blush at the outside of the face near the hairline. Smile into the mirror to find out the ‘apple spot’ on your cheek. Apply blush from this spot to your hairline, taking care to blend well. There shouldn’t be an obvious patch or line of color on the cheeks.

Sweep powder blushes in one direction always. Always tap off excess powder blush before applying it on the cheeks. A dot of cream blush applied on the apples of the cheeks must be worked upon to blend with the hairline. A hint of shimmering blush on the highest point of your cheeks can add a hint of drama. Choosing a quality blush brush is the first step towards the right application.

Find a blush brush that is the size of the apple of your cheek for a perfect application. A full round blush brush can give a professional look to your blush makeup. A bigger brush gives better results – one with a dome-shaped head and generous fibers. For perfect blending or precise outlines, use a good set of makeup brushes for applying blush. Compact size blush brushes are too small and the bristles are not shaped properly. Do not use the same brush that is used for applying loose powder.

How to apply blush for round faces: Give an illusion of slenderness by applying blush in a sideways V on the cheekbones. Blend it well and add a bit to the chin.

How to apply blush for square faces: Soften the square angles of the face with dab of blush on the forehead and chin. Apply blush from the center of the eyes towards the cheekbones and blend.

How to apply blush for rectangular faces: Apply blush below the outer corners of the eyes so as to reduce the elongated square shape.

How to apply blush for oval faces: Apply blush to the prominent part of the cheekbone and blend towards the temples.

Blush Color

Choose blush to suit the occasion and the time of the day. What goes well for a dramatic evening can be over the top for office wear. For day wear, choose a lighter color than you would at night. Opt for pink shades in winter while in summer opt for peachy, warm hues. Soft natural pinks, beige and peach are ideal for a bright day. Pinch for cheeks for a second or two and check your blush color.

A blush shade that mimics your natural coloring will avoid an artificial and comical look. Keep your blush color in the same palette as your lipstick shade. Check out shades of blush in natural lighting. Discard old blush shades from your makeup box. Combine shades to come up with new ones – best suited for your skin tone.

Skin Tone Blush shade
Fair skin tone Pink or Rose
Light skin tone Nude pink, Coral, Tan
Light- Medium skin tone Pale rose, coral, tan
Medium – Tan skin tone Pink or Rose, coral
Tan skin tone Tawny brown

Blushers are available in powder, cream or liquid and in a wide variety of tones. Liquid and cream blush should be applied before powder. Powder blushes are easier to apply than cream blushes. Cream blushes must be dabbed on each cheek and gently blended with the fingers. You can use a sponge to smoothen it. Cream blushes work best for dry skins. For oily skin, consider using powder blush. For rosier cheeks, consider gel or liquid tints. Liquid and gel blushes are great for oily skin. Blend skin stains fast since they dry very fast.

Liquid Eyeliner

What is Liquid Eyeliner?

Liquid eyeliner is simply eyeliner that is in liquid form instead of pencil or powder form. The liquid lineris usually designed as a slender tube with a fine brush on the end. By turning the tube on the other end, the liquid comes out in small amounts. It comes in a variety of colors, including brown liquid eyeliner. It also comes in several different formulas.

Benefits of Liquid Eyeliners

There are a lot of benefits to using liquid eyeliners. Learning how to use eyeliner is a big bonus in understanding the benefits. These include:

  • Line doesn’t fade as easily as with other eyeliners.
  • Fine brush glides over lids easily and with precision.
  • Most formulas are waterproof or water resistant.

Proper Liquid Eyeliner Application – The Steps

There is a precise method when it comes to learning how to apply liquid eyeliner. Learning how to put on regular eyeliner is a good first step before graduating to liquid eyeliner. Here are the steps:

  • Apply eyeshadow base to the lids. This will prevent the makeup from smudging.
  • When you are first learning how to apply liquid eyeliner, it is a good idea to apply regular eyeliner with a light touch. Then you can go over it with the liquid liner. The benefit of this is that the line will already be drawn.
  • When it is time to apply the liquid eyeliner, prep the liner by making sure there is enough liquid in the brush.
  • Start with the top lid. With a light touch, apply the liner starting at the inside corner and working outwards.
  • Instead of trying to apply it all in one long line, it works best if you actually draw several smaller lines. However, as you practice more, you will find the best method for you.
  • Make sure you let the eyeliner dry thoroughly before applying more eye makeup or even blinking.

Buying Liquid Eyeliner

When you purchase liquid eyeliner, there are a few things that you will need to look out for. First, you will want to buy a product that is highly regarded. Reading product reviews is a good idea. Also, you want to make sure that the formula is easy to work with and that the liner is in the right color.

Two of our favorites are Maybelline Liquid Eyeliner and Revlon Liquid Eyeliner. Both products are put out by highly respected cosmetic companies. Maybelline’s formula is precise and you can actually draw the line in one stroke. Revlon’s is also easy to apply. Both formulas are long lasting and do not smudge easily.

Tweeze Your Brows

Which Tweezer?

Thin Tip: Good for grasping small, fine hairs, and plucking ingrown hair.
Slanted Tip: Gives maximum control.
Square Tip: Best used for removing coarse hairs or several hairs at a time.

1. Tweeze immediately after showering or apply a hot washcloth to loosen hair follicles.

2.Hold a pencil vertically along the side of the nose. Eyebrow should start at outside edge if pencil. Hint: Leaving a bit more space will widen close-set eyes.

3.Hold pencil to outside of eye. This is where the eyebrow should end.

4.Smooth brows with a little moisturizer to help hairs slide out.

5.Brush brows up to find a natural arch.

6. Draw in the desired shape beforehand with a soft eye shadow pencil. Hint: Don’t use an eyeliner pencil. It will cause you to pluck too much.

7.Tweeze under the brow first, plucking in the direction of the growth. Hint: If your plucking becomes too painful, apply a little anbesol (yes, that pain reliever for teeth also numbs the brows)

8.Using an eyelash comb, comb brows upwards and trim any hairs that extend beyond the natural top or brow bone.

9.After tweezing, soothe the area with cool, wet tea bags.

Manicure 101

In this post I am going to go through some simple steps to having a flawless manicure:

  1. Remove old nail polish thoroughly.
  2. Soak hands in warm water for 10 or 15 minutes. Dry hands.
  3. File nails in one direction only. Avoid using a seesaw motion.
  4. Push back cuticles. Use a cuticle moisturizer if they do not push back easily after soaking.
  5. Massage your hands. Use a moisturizing lotion. Use an exfoliating lotion if your skin is dry and/or roughened.
  6. Apply a base coat. Allow it to dry.
  7. Apply polish. Clean any stray marks with a cotton swab dipped in polish remover.
  8. Add a second coat for deeper color.
  9. Finish the manicure with a top coat of clear polish.

Tips: Put your hands in a basin or sink full of ice-cold water if you need your nails to dry in a hurry.

Warnings: Avoid cutting your cuticles with scissors or nail clippers.

How To Apply Fake Eyelashes

Applying fake lashes is best left to your makeup artist, but with a little patience and practice, you too can master this art. So don’t try it five minutes before leaving to a big party. Andrea lashes are great and they are available inexpensively at the drugstore.

Keep a piece of paper handy to hold the lashes, and a magnifying mirror, which makes the job a lot easier.
Using tweezers, dip the base end of the lashes into the glue, then place the lashes as close to the baseline of your own as you can, filling in wherever you want the greatest impact (generally, the mid to outer lashes look fabulous in false lashes). Press gently, but firmly with something blunt. Hold the lash in place for about 5 seconds until the glue has a chance to hold.

Let the glue dry, and then apply a dark eyeliner to camouflage the line of the fake lashes and then apply your mascara. The mascara will help blend your own lashes with the fake ones, and make your eyes look fuller and larger.

To remove, gently pull them off with tweezers.

How to Wear Red Lipstick

When wearing red lips, you normally want to keep eye makeup subdued. One exception to this rule is an evening look: deep red lipstick and a mysterious smoky eye make a striking combination and are the very definition of glamor!

INGREDIENTS

  • Eyes: black, gray and ivory eyeshadow, black eyeliner, mascara
  • Black

  • Lips: deep red lipstick, red gloss
  • Lip-Ink Specialty Lip Kit Reds

  • Face: concealer, foundation, foundation primer, blush
  • Clinique Blushing Blush Powder Blush - # 104 Carefree Coral 6g/0.21oz

Eyes

Curl lashes. Apply 3 layers of black mascara to top & bottom, let dry. Curl again. Prep the lids with Foundation Primer and dab black eyeshadow up to the crease and extending outwards. Repeat this step on lower lid. With a medium-sized brush, sweep gray eyeshadow slightly over the crease, blending over the black. Repeat the same over the lower lid. Sweep ivory eyeshadow onto the brow bone and underneath the brow arch. Blend well into the gray. Apply black eyeliner on the waterline.

Did you know?

Liquid eyeliner is best applied to the outer edge of waterline, close to the lashes and away from the eyeball. This will prevent it from getting into your eye (ouch!).

Face
Moisturize skin, apply Foundation primer and then foundation. Concealer for dark spots and under the eyes. Keep blush natural – any tone that matches your skin tone. Finish off with a light dust. Add a beauty mark anywhere on the face with a liquid liner or pencil liner.

Lips

Smaller mouth was preferred during that era. This can be achieved by covering the edges of your mouth with foundation and recreating the shape from scratch. Draw inside the natural lip line with dark red pencil and fill in with Royal Red lipstick. Finish off with red gloss, like Baby Lips!
